The wines of Montefalco Tradition
We have believed in the value of tradition for 40 years, and we convey it in our Montefalco wines.
Fonte Perna, Colli Martani Grechetto DOC, is always considered the most everyday and traditional of the area’s whites. It is a wine of particular depth, capable of combining structure and momentum with great charm.
In keeping with tradition, Montefalco DOC Rosso Capo De Casa is made from a blend of Sangiovese with a small proportion of other varieties typical of the area, all grapes coming exclusively from our Colle San Clemente vineyards.
The Montefalco Sagrantino Terra Cupa is a true manifesto of our territory: a powerful and dynamic red.
Montefalco Sagrantino Passito Cocrè is one of the area’s oldest sweet wines. It is the result of patiently drying the grapes on special racks, destined for the most important festivities and celebrations.
Fonte PernaColli Martani Grechetto DOC
Always considered the most traditional of the area’s whites, Colli Martani Grechetto DOC is a wine of particular depth, capable of combining structure and momentum with great charm. After the harvest, it is vinified and is left to mature for a short time in steel tanks in order to preserve its natural flavor. After that, it rests in the bottle another 2 months before being marketed. The name “Fonte Perna” comes from the name of an ancient water source not far from Colle San Clemente, the small town where our winery is located. The fresh and everyday character of this Grechetto is particularly associated with the coolness and spring of this site from which water necessary for everyday needs was once obtained.
Intense straw yellow to the eye. The nose expresses all the typicality of the varietal with floral and fruity notes reminiscent of hawthorn, citron and yellow peach. A slight minerality anticipates a fresh, full-bodied sip with good structure and excellent persistence.
It goes well with appetizers and first courses, especially cheeses, cured meats, egg preparations. Of great versatility, it enhances recipes based on fish from the lake and beyond. Surprising pairing with more winter dishes, especially legume soups. We recommend its consumption at 10/12°C (50/53°F), a temperature easily reached after a short passage in the refrigerator.
Terra CupaMontefalco Sagrantino DOCG
Among the most important and famous Italian wines, Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG is born in our Colle San Clemente vineyards. After the harvest it rests on the skins for nearly two months, it matures for a long time in oak barrels of different sizes and rests in the bottle for at least a year. The name “Terra Cupa” comes from the name of a road that runs alongside part of our most important vineyard: a stretch of clay and limestone soil whose qualities are reminiscent of those of the plot from which the Sagrantino vineyard originates.
A dark ruby red color to the eye. The typical varietal notes, such as blackberry, cherry, plum, are flanked by balsamic tones and slightly spicy hints. It is an energetic, deep, elegant wine with excellent structure and surprising freshness, characteristics that also make it suitable for long aging.
It matches with appetizers and earthy first courses, especially soups and rich pasta dishes also stuffed that recall the traditions of Umbria. Classic pairing with great roasts including game. We recommend its consumption at 16/17°C (60/62°F), a temperature slightly lower than “room” temperature.
Capo de CasaMontefalco DOC Rosso
“Capo de Casa” recalls the vocation of an everyday wine of the territory, one that was historically made from the varieties in the field and still accompanies family evenings and the passing of the seasons. If Sagrantino represents the structure, energy and longevity of Montefalco wines, the Rosso is the one that most tells the story of the everyday life of our work. It is a balanced and dynamic wine, as fresh as it is capable of intense depth. A wine that is made from a blend of Sangiovese with a small proportion of other varieties typical of the area, all grapes coming exclusively from our Colle San Clemente vineyards. Vinification takes place in steel and maturation in different types of jars, depending on the vineyard of origin, for at least 18 months.
The wine is bright ruby red to the eye. The nose expresses tones reminiscent of red fruit-cherry and blackberry-and a slight spiciness, characteristics enhanced by a barely vegetal note. It is a wine as structured as fine, always fresh, vital and with excellent persistence.
It matches with appetizers and earthy first courses, especially cheeses, cured meats and rich dishes typical of the Montefalco area. Try it with a black truffle-based first course. We recommend its consumption at 15/17°C (59/62°F), a lower temperature than “room” temperature.
CocrèMontefalco Sagrantino DOCG Passito
The name of the Montefalco Sagrantino Passito “Cocré” recalls a custom as old as it is familiar: it is that needle used to make lace, a special processing of yarn that results in a ornate fabric, the one that our grandmothers used to sew in winter in front of the fireplace. Among the oldest wines of the area, Sagrantino Passito is a sweet wine, the result of a patient drying of the grapes on special racks, intended for the most important holidays and celebrations. A wine that comes from our Colle San Clemente vineyards, whose grapes are left to dry naturally for almost 2 months. Vinification is traditional: left to macerate on its skins for 6-8 weeks, it matures for over 3 years in both steel and glass.
Dark ruby red to the eye. The nose expresses deep, enveloping notes of jammy fruit – blackberries, cherries and strawberries – as well as fascinating spicy and balsamic hints. It is a sweet, dragging, fresh wine well supported by a tannic texture of particular vigor. Great persistence.
Pairs wonderfully with baked desserts and very mature cheeses at the end of a meal. Excellent with red fruit tarts, dry pastries, dark chocolate. We recommend its consumption at 16/18°C (60/63°F), a temperature generally lower than “room” temperature.
